Hello and welcome to Simply SCD!
My name is Leta and I created this community and resource to combine and feature the best resources out there for those following the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD). I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease when I was 16 years old and the disease was so progressed that I had to have a small bowel resection right after. After the surgery, I transitioned from Remicade (infliximab) to Lialda (melamine) and stabilized, which is when my doctor introduced me to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. At the time there were limited resources about the SCD so it was overwhelming to learn about at first. But as I learned more about the diet and realized how it could become a lifestyle and treatment option for me, I transitioned into the diet 100%, dropped all medications and have been on it for 7+ years now, inflammation-free! (As a side note, I have also gone 100% dairy-free (even “SCD” dairy) as my doctor is concerned about the milk protein (not just the sugar) itself. Work with your doctor and/or nutritionist to decide if the SCD needs to be modified for your condition and status.) After years of being on the SCD, I realized the diet can be actually quite simple and saw the need for a resource that simplified the SCD and a platform for SCDers to collaborate and share their knowledge and resources to help keep the SCD simple and sustainable…All this has led to Simply SCD!
I am excited for you to join this community and join the journey of being on the SCD.
